In the case study, the challenge was the significantly low roller life in the Coal Handling Prep Plant (CHPP) area. The standard steel rollers installed were not suitable for the specific application and environment. The solution involved installing rollers that were designed to suit the wet environment and implementing continuous monitoring and analysis of idler abnormalities to identify areas for improvement. The key outcomes included a 51% reduction in rollers changed per annum for conveyors in the CHPP, reduced roller-related downtime for the conveyors, and decreased annual roller maintenance costs for the respective conveyors.
The Challenge
- Roller life in CHPP area was significantly low
- Standard steel rollers installed were not suitable for application and environment
The Solution
- Rollers installed to suit the wet environment
- Continue to monitor and analyse idler abnormalities and areas for improvement
Key Outcomes
51% Reduction
51% reduction in rollers changed per annum for conveyors in CHPP
Less Downtime
Reduction in roller related downtime for conveyors in CHPP
Cost Savings
Reduced annual roller maintenance costs for respective conveyors
